Disconnect after sending or receiving If this is ticked and you are using a dial-up connection to access your e-mail, the connection will hang-up when you have finished either sending or receiving e-mail. If this is unticked then the connection will remain open. This setting is irrelevant if you connect via TCP/IP or Microsoft IMAP. |
Note If your dial-up connection was not initiated by our e-mailer, then it will remain open even if this option is ticked.

Never show the event history You won't see the event history of the person you're e-mailing unless you reveal the history manually in the E-mail Compose screen. |

Interface options | |
![]() |
Standard mode E-mails will be sent and received with the minimum amount of user interaction. You will still be asked about deleting junk e-mail if you have that option set, and also about retrieving large attachments if you have that option set. |
![]() |
Advanced mode When you check for new e-mail you will see it listed on screen and you can choose which messages you want to retrieve or delete. |
The advantage of Advanced mode is that you can delete e-mail without having to download it first. You will see the name of the sender and the subject, and the size of any attachments. For example, you might want to delete an e-mail with a large attachment to clear space in your mailbox, without having to download it first. |
Note The Advanced mode might be a bit intimidating for some users.

Timeout options | |

Try to connect up to 3 times before reporting failure If this is ticked then three attempts will be made to access your POP or SMTP host, with a delay of a few seconds inbetween each attempt. If this is unticked and the host cannot be contacted, you will be notified immediately. You sometimes fail to connect to a host because it is busy at the time, and so making a few attempts is worthwhile. |
Note Some hosts keep track of how many times you try to connect and will block you after a few failed attempts for security reasons, in which case you shoud untick this option.

![]() |
Ask before... over 512k (Standard mode only) E-mails with attachments smaller than 512k (half a megabyte) will be retrieved without asking, anything over 512k will require user confirmation. |
![]() |
Ask before... over 1Mb (Standard mode only) E-mails with attachments smaller than a megabyte will be retrieved without asking, anything over a megabyte will require user confirmation. |
![]() |
Apply intelligence to check for missing attachments If this is ticked then you will be notified if you write an e-mail that seems to imply that an attachment will be sent with it, but you haven't attached a file to the e-mail. For example, if you use the word attached or sending, such as 'I have attached the file...' If this is unticked then no checks will be made for missing attachments. |

Filing options | |
![]() |
File attachments along with out-going e-mails If this is ticked then any attachments will be copied to the folder of the person you were e-mailing, along with the e-mail itself. If this is unticked then only the e-mail will be filed. |
![]() |
File the e-mail to the Company as well as the Contact If this is ticked then a copy of the e-mail will be filed to the Company or Family as well as the Contact. If this is unticked then the e-mail will only be filed in the Contact's folder. |
